Sophie Lancaster

Sophie Lancaster. Have you heard this name before? Have you ever seen her picture before? Is it even a little bit familiar? It should be.

On August 11, 2007 she was murdered. Her crime? Being goth.

Sophie and her boyfriend, Robert Maltby, were walking through Stubbylee Park, Bacup. A group of males in their mid-teens (some described them as a "gang of thugs") saw Robert and said, "Should we batter him? Lets batter him." They kicked and punched him, then jumped and stood on his head.

This is when Sophie interfered. She tried to shield him from more harm, and yelled at the "thugs" to leave him alone.

They then turned on her. They first kicked her on the head and continued to stamp on her as she laid on the floor.

The paramedics found them side-by-side on the floor, unconscious. They couldnt tell who was male and who was female, their face injuries where that severe.

Sophie died two weeks later. Her boyfriend has made a partial recovery.

In the end, they where attacked because of the way they dressed. And a girl lost her life.

Her mom has created a foundation, the Sophie Lancaster Foundation or S.O.P.H.I.E. An acronym for Stamp Out Prejudice Hatred and Intolerence Everywhere.

You can donate at the site, sophielancasterfoundation.com, to help Sophie's mother stamp out intolerence. Or you can buy a S.O.P.H.I.E wristbands and other merchandise, or a Sophie eye pencil from Illamasqua.

Please help, dont let this happen again.
